Best Board Games For Couples

Sometimes it can be hard to find someone to play board games with.

If you’re married, you know that your significant other would be that perfect someone. If not, your partner might also be that person. The only problem is that sometimes they aren’t really into board games.

I think board games sometimes get a bad rep.

The culture has progressed drastically in recent years but still a lot of people only know of games like Monopoly or Clue, and maybe they’ve played them to death.

So I’ve put together a list of the best board games you can buy for couples. Some are 2 player games and some are games you can play in groups of couples.

The 5 Best Board Games For Couples

Best Board Games for Married CouplesDominion is a card game, in which you are a monarch. You want to expand your kingdom and make it flourish.

The problem is you have a few other monarchs who want to do the same thing, so you’ll be battling with them to explore new land, claim it, build on it, and fend off the other monarchs.

This is the first game I recommend to couples as its so simple and is so much fun.

If your SO isn’t up to a big complex game, this is the perfect way to ease him/her into the board game world.

It’s an interactive casual game that has something for everyone. Being a collectable game, you can buy numerous expansion packs to add a little diversity but to be honest the base game can be played over and over again and still be incredibly fun.

Best Board Game for CouplesHive works on a different idea than most board games, in that there is no board.

Or at least not at first. By placing down tiles the players will create a board and will race to capture the opposing team’s Queen Bee.

One thing I love about this game is that it’s extremely portable. Great for travelling or taking to friends places.

Hive is, in a way, like chess. The object is to trap the other player’s Queen by surrounding it and preventing it from getting away. There are a number of bugs you can use that are only allowed to move in certain ways.

A very simple game that would be a great addition to any couple’s collection.

King of Tokyo

Best Board Games for Married CouplesKing of Tokyo is about becoming just that, the King of Tokyo. What better way to do so than by playing the role of a giant monster (or robot, or alien) fighting throughout the city?

The mechanics of this game are so simple but oh so fun.

It’s a fast paced game with dice and cards that can be taught in a matter of minutes and will very likely become a go-to game.

Players are aiming to get 20 points, or to be the last monster standing.

At the start of your turn you’ll roll 6 dice to either attack, heal, gain points or gain energy that can be spent on different beneficial cards.

This one is perfect for a group of couples.

The Castles Of Burgundy

best board games for couples Castles of Burgundy is a fantastically rich game, because of this its also takes a bit of time to get used to.

Once you do get used to it, it might just become one of your favorites.

It’s a detailed strategy game set in French Medieval times. You are playing as princes who are trying to build the best estates possible.

The game takes place over 5 rounds and you will trade, farm, build, and research to make sure you are more prosperous than the other princes.

It can be played with 2 players or 4 players, and I have to say the gameplay is equally fun either way.

It can be a little intimidating to start playing but stick with it and you’ll be rewarded!

Cash N Guns

best board games for married couplesI’d consider putting this into the category of party games, but if you’re playing with other couples then this is so much fun.

The idea of this game is to use your foam guns to intimidate other players into giving up bigger stakes in the loot you all just plundered.

After the big heist you’re back in the safe house divvying up the cash. The problem is that everyone wants more than an equal share.

Using cards, mind games, luck and strategy you’ll negotiate for more money or you’ll be sleeping with the fishes.

I often recommend this game when people are looking for drinking games, but even without a drink Cash N Guns will always be a blast.
